Poem; The Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Just where I came from
No one quite knows
In the far distant past
I held the bull by the nose
Killed rats in the thousands
I baited Brock to
You'd think that enough
For one breed to go through

On top of all that
I fought in The Square Box
Wagers were taken
Asking, could I walk the walk?
Sixteen feet across
Facing one of my kind
On the profits from this
The human could wine and dine

Then came enlightenment
Society cared
No place for the war dog
Teeth continually bared

Next came the showring
Alongside family pet
Just to remind you
History ain't finished yet

Loyal and trustworthy
I certainly can be
BUT
The history of my breed
Is still alive within me!!!
