INFORMATION FOR WHEN YOU ARE MOVING HOMES WITH YOUR DOG
WHAT YOU ALREADY CAN DO BEFORE MOVING:
• Make sure your dog is microchipped and registered. This is very useful if your dog is lost. When your dog is registered always keep in mind that your record has to be up to date.
• Look for a vet in your new neighbourhood.
• If you have to travel by car you can get your dog get used to it in advance.
• Make sure your dog is safely kept if you travel by car. You can use i.e. a crate (always check if your dog has enough space to move).
DURING MOVING:
• You can best lock your dog in one room, so he can't escape while you're taking all your things out of the house.
• If your dog suffers from car sickness don't feed him for approx. 12 hours before travelling.
• Don't leave your dog unattended in the car if it's extremely hot or cold.
• If you have to travel far it is best to make a few stops so your dog can eat, drink and go out for a little walk.
WHEN YOU'VE ARRIVED IN YOUR NEW HOUSE:
• When unpacking your things keep your dog in one room with his belongings (i.e. toys) and give him a new toy or bone.
• Check your backyard on escape routes.
• When everything is unpacked take your dog for a nice walk in his new neighbourhood.
